Dowdelin “Péké Viré” EP

Fresh off a nomination at Les Victoires du Jazz for their album “Lanmou Lanmou” released last January with Underdog Records, Dowdelin returns with a new 3-track EP named "Péké Viré" which can be translated as “We won’t look back”.

This is indeed a departure as the band, as per usual with each
new release, redefines itself, or rather develops/extends its enjoyable mix of cultures and influences to reach uncharted musical landscapes/universes.

“Péké Viré” was recorded live with drums and amplifiers, in other words, in the band’s concert setup and sounds definitely more electric, warmer and more geared towards dancing. This can be felt on the quasi jazz-funk track "Whispers Behind" that features the shiny duo Djeudjoah &
Lt Nicholson.
French and English are in the foreground here, alongside, Creole, a staple of Dowdelin’s identity.

The title track kicks off as a dreamlike tribal chant "Nou ké alé, péké viré", "We’re on our way, we won’t look back" which echoes the band’s trailblazing musical approach, as well as the journey of migrants refugees who are the main topic of the song. “When we see who is afraid of being replaced, maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all. Let’s do it!”
We are in an atmosphere of organic and tribal house where the chorus is reminiscent of a pygmy song with its choirs of convulsive onomatopoeia.

The third title is no less than a very personal take on the famous and inebriating song "I like to move it" that recently saw another surge in popularity thanks to the movie Madagascar.
An anthem which morphs quite naturally into a Caribbean house beat with the help of a great deal of Ka drum from Guadeloupe. The lyrics are re-written in Creole and the band goes as far as introducing a short jazzy re-harmonization at the end with more of a Brazilian flavor.

Dowdelin Lyon, France

No spot in music is immovable. No music can sit still but it’s hardly ver as true as it is for Dowdelin, a band that can’t be tied down to a single
geography and genealogy. The creole language, Caribbean rhythms, urban energies, dazzling virtuosity, sensual electro: The group evolves in a
unique place where genres and colors, heritage and audacity can merge.
